
Like any teenager, Kwaku Oppong usually spent his summers playing video games. But before his senior year of high school, the 16-year-old instead took an internship building websites.
Dustin Pearce, founder of Makeshark, a Columbus digital marketing agency, hires summer interns from at-risk high school students recommended by Saint Stephens Community House in Linden, including Oppong in 2017.
“Most of my friends were doing the regular high school jobs everyone does, like a fast food restaurant,” Oppong said. “I was one of the kids who actually got to work in an office.”
